Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for a beginner! I bought this smoker this weekend and smoked for the first time. I smoked 3 full racks of ribs, and tenderloin. The smoker held temp really well and the doors made it very easy to work with the food and the charcoal separately without losing too much heat. I would absolutely recommend this to someone looking to smoke for the first time!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Smoker after modifications The smoker is well built and sturdy, with the exception of the smoke chamber door latch that popped off the first time I used it. The solid charcoal pan is also a problem, as it doesn't allow for a good air flow to achieve a good burning coal fire to smoke wood chips with. I found a square porcelain coated steel "wok" that fit the guide rails perfectly to use as a charcoal pan, and that allowed for a much better fire and cooking temperature to be achieved and better smoke production. The "wok" was for grilling seafood and vegetables, so it was made full of holes for plenty of heat (air) flow, which is just what this smoker needed. One thing that you will need to do if you keep it outside, is to get a cover for it, as it will rust out rather quickly if you leave it to the weather uncovered. Other than those issues, this smoker will let you make some terrific food, we have had some fantastic smoked turkeys, ribs, prime rib roasts, chickens, meatloafs, steaks, corn, pork tenderloins, you name it and I've probably smoked it in this smoker. I like to use cider in the water pan along with some other spices and seasonings depending on what I'm smoking. This opens an avenue of experimentation for you if you like to try different things with food.

yesterday I purchased this item. was very easy to put together. excited abut using it. but I was shorted a baking rack and its holders. the store doesn't have another one in stock. What do I need to do?

I can't get the temp over 200 any suggestions?

We're sorry to hear this. If the Big Easy is turned on or off incorrectly it can cause the safety device in the regulator to trip. This will cause a low flow and the regulator will need to be reset. This is an easy procedure that involves unhooking the regulator from the propane tank for a minute and then reattaching and following the lighting instructions on your grill. Make sure that when your Big Easy is turned off that the Big Easy is shut off first and then the propane tank. Please give us a call at 1-800-241-7548 for more information.

I have a composite deck.  Will this smoker get to hot to use on the deck?

I have this smoker, and have used it frequently and have never had a problem with the legs getting hot or even warm. However if you wanted to be extra safe or careful, you could use a mat or patio pavers under the smoker for extra caution if you wanted, as there could always be the possibility of a hot coal(s) getting away on occasion, which could mar your deck.

Hi, Does this vertical smoker come with a removable ash pan? One pictures says shows an ash pan, but the front view of the smoker does not show the spot where it would be. Also, will Char-Broil release another split-door vertical smoker in the future?
