Grilling pizza is so easy and delicious, you may never go back to store-bought.
Two simple additions to your grilling arsenal make this easy: a pizza stone and a source for pre-made pizza dough. A pizza stone will cost about $40, but it will last a lifetime. Many grocery stores sell pre-made pizza dough in 1-pound balls, which will make one pizza between 12 and 16 inches, depending on how thin it’s rolled. Local pizza shops may also be willing to sell you a ball of dough.
The trick to getting the dough on and off the pizza stone is cornmeal. It allows the pizza to easily slide and creates a slight barrier between the dough and the stone.
It just takes minutes for the pizza to cook. This one was done on a Char-Broil® TRU-Infrared™ two-burner grill. If you prefer a browner top, place the pizza under the broiler for several minutes.

Make your own pizza with grilled chicken and your favorite toppings.
- 2 chicken breasts
- Your favorite BBQ rub
- 1 pound ball of store-bought pizza dough
- Your favorite BBQ sauce
- 2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
- 1 small green pepper, thinly sliced
- 1/2 small red onion, thinly sliced
- Jarred pickled banana pepper rings
- A pizza stone
- Preheat the grill to medium high. Sprinkle the chicken breasts with the BBQ rub. Grill the chicken on the first side for four minutes. Flip and continue grilling until the internal temperature reaches 160°F in the thickest part of the breast as measured with a digital probe thermometer. Remove from the grill and reserve.
- Lower the heat on the grill to medium and place the pizza stone on the grates. Close the lid and allow the stone to heat up for 15 minutes.
- Meanwhile, flour a work surface and roll the pizza dough to a 12-inch round. Put some cornmeal on a pizza paddle or cutting board and put the pizza dough on top.
- Spread a layer of BBQ sauce on the pizza dough. Top with the shredded cheese, green pepper slices, onion slices and banana peppers. Slice the chicken into thin strips and top the pizza with them.
- Sprinkle additional cornmeal on the pizza stone. Slide the pizza onto the stone using a spatula and grill for approximately 7-8 minutes, checking the bottom of the crust periodically to make sure it doesn't get too brown.
- Remove the pizza with tongs on to a cutting board. Let rest several minutes before slicing.
