For a strong, sweet bacon flavor try our hickory wood chips. Beef, pork and game meat work best with hickory. Use a smoker box for smoking on your electric or gas grill. For infrared grills, add wood chunks directly to the grate. Chunks come in a five-pound bag.

  • Smoking wood chips burn quickly and work better for shorter smokes.

  • Hickory has a strong flavor. Try mixing it with a lighter wood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing flavor! I received these when I ordered my first smoker. I'm not too experienced with smoking yet, but I can say that these wood chips made the ribs I smoked taste better than what I've always bought in restaurants!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good smoke flavor I used these wood chips when smoking a Boston butt. I did not soak in water, instead put them in the smoke box dry. I got about 5 hours of good smoke then refilled the box with fresh chips. One refill for a 10 hour cook I thought was great!

Have a new electric patio grille. Can I put dry hickory wood chips directly on the grille, toward the back of the grille, to add a smoke flavor? Or should they be soaked first? Or should I put them in a smoker, directly on the grille top?

Asked by: Frank Q
This can all be done. Wood chips can be placed directly onto the cooking grate or in a smoker box. Soaking the wood chips will help to prolong their smoke time.
