1st infrared grill, former standard griller
I have to say this thing is awesome, I kicked around the idea for some time until i pulled the trigger. I gave it a 5 star rating over all but several 4 stars based on the fact that the side burner cover is a bit cheap, its big and wastes the entire right side and the cheaply made cleaning tool. Due to its close proximity to the grill box over the side burner and the heat this thing can generate the cover can get quite hot when int he down position.
On to the grilling, this thing takes a while to heat up but once its up to temp it stays hot and cooks evenly everywhere. Mny say to turn the heat off i simply put it to low. There are NO more shot spots or flare ups. But expect more maintenance due to the additional infrared grills below. Another disappointing area is the tool supplied to clean those infrared grills, its cheap and not very hand friendly. I have yet to also try the free side griddle but how could that be bad.
Overall I love the grill I am happy with the performance and overall its a step in the right direction for grill-kind. Next i plant to try using some wood chips on it as they recommend by charbroil that but I have not tried it yet. This is not an entry level grill, if your looking for that buy the advantage series. It took me about 1.5 hours to put together. This thing rocks!
On a side note I picked this up in a box since i dont have a big truck and the staff at Lowes gave me the wrong one. Unfortunately I figured that out when I got home, however Lowes made it right on Memorial day weekend and had the right one delivered the very next day! Thanks Mike at Lowes Beavercreek Ohio.
Char-Broil Gas Grill
Takes some time to put together, but pieces fit together well and is very sturdy once together. I put it together in the garage and wheeled it through the house to the back patio, without worries of it falling apart. Follow the instructions and no dreaded last bolt left over once you are done.
Electric start is so easy and grill heats up quickly if you turn the burners to high. Will take some getting used to the infrared heating from a normal gas grill I had before for lower temp cooking. Once going, the temp will rise quickly if you are more than medium heat. Plenty of power needless to say.
Gas tank gauge is really nice, used a few times to cook burgers, chicken, salmon, started with a full propane tank and hasn't moved off full after about 1.5 hours of use. Easily cook 18 medium sized hamburger patties at once on the cooking surface. There are flare ups though with high heat and 80/20 burgers. But with that much grease, kind of expected, and much less flame than regular propane grill.
Initial startup on 3/4 flame to burn the machine oils off the new metal and season the cooking surface, got easily to 550F degrees in about 15 minutes. And probably would have pegged the thermometer out at 650F if I would have let it go.
My opinion, best 4 burner propane tank grill you can get for the price (I paid $350 on sale).
Great grill. Very sturdy construction and quite easy to control the temperature.
