Exactly what needed!
I've bought this grill to replace my old Kenmore grill which I liked very much actually; but due to its age it start to fall apart... I didn't want to buy whatever new, I needed equally well working grilling station or even better then my old one! Well, to my great disappointment I couldn't find any worthy replacement for a long time, all grills which were recommended to me by my friends (some times very expensive ones...) had some issues which didn't look too attractive... After doing my homework I've found that today's big trend is "infrared" grills, but prices... give me a break! Well, Lowe's offered really well built grill made by Char-Broil for a very affordable price yet it absolutely outperforms more expensive competitives which my friends use! LOL))) What ever I grill - burgers or steak or chicken, it is always juicer and flare ups are no problem any more, I no longer need a bowl of water next to the grill to distinguish flames on my barbeque LOL))) This is great!
Oh, one more thing - conversion to natural gas was unbelievably easy! With a kit which I've bough at Lowe's as well I've installed it myself in less then 30 minutes! I had to replace only one orifice at side burner, all main burners already have orifices for natural gas right behind the once which are installed to burn Propane, all I needed just unscrew propane orifices and that was it! With quick disconnect coupling mechanism for natural gas my grill is very safe & I never run out of Propane any more!
High quality product, very appealing look, versatility, excellent performance & whole package for a very affordable price!
Good so far. Stays Hot.
This is about the new model for 2015, which evidently is not what the previous reviewer was commenting about. This grill this year has 443 stainless emmiters so they will not rust, possibly why it is more expensive than some other similar Char Broils. There are no drawers or shelfs in the cabinet under the grill.
The Grill heats to about 550 in about 9-10 minutes. Will get hotter too 600+ but is a bit too hot at that point. You can then actually just turn off the gas at that point and put meat on, flip it and close it again, it will stay hot >400 the whole time with no additional gas. If you keep gas on, it will be too hot, keep it low if you feel you should turn gas on. VERY even hot surface, I can put meat anywhere on entire surface, front back side, it is all very hot and will sear. And it holds heat way after you turn burners off.
Directions said to season the emitter plates with Canola, not the grates. So I didn't do the grates.
I use the cool clean nylon charbroil brush and gets grates clean enough and gets emitters clean enough. Since the emmiter holes are completely covered by the grates, I have yet to see anything at all get stuck in the holes. Have used grill 4 times in about 2 weeks. Hot Dogs/Burgers/Chicken/Pork.
The electric ignitor actually is just needed to start any one of the burners when you turn it on. Then you can turn on and off any other burner without pushing the ignitor button again. However, you have to push the ignitor button again for when you turn on the Side external burner that has a griddle with it. I put some bacon on there the other day and was plenty hot, too hot actually that I burned half the bacon. Nice griddle though, I think it would handle anything including fish too.
The firebox where the burners are below the emitter platest has stayed mostly clean with only a little bit of grease or debris making its way to that area of the grill.
Makes nice sear marks. Propane "gauge" works when it is not really hot ouside, otherwise it thinks you have a lot of propane left, but it is definitely better than no gauge.
The black painted panels seem cheap on the sides and back. The rest of the grill seems high quality, albeit not super thick panels. The grill is heavy, I do not expect to have problems with the wind blowing it over.
Darn Near Perfect
I've owned many grills over the years. This one is at the top of the evolutionary process. Definitely no flare ups, and with a little practice, you will cook juicy. and seared at the same time. It is well made, and is miles ahead in value over the competition. Easy to clean, and the design keeps most of the mess away from the burners, and lower unit. My only criticism is no flare ups. I must admit I like my steaks flame broiled. Still and all it does a wonderful job on steaks and everything else. The cast iron grate make wonderful sear marks, and the stainless steal plate underneath turns dripping into wonderful smoke that flavors your food just right.
