TRU-Infrared Emitter Tray for Grill Grate- Model 3488898 is rated 4.2609 out of 5 by 161.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from The grate housing tray is not durable. The overall design of the Lowes Infrared Commercial is bad. The rack that holds the flame retarders are a part of the fire box and cannot be replaced. You have to order the entire box for $80.00, dismantle the top half of the grill to replace it. The Grate Housing does not hold up, the metal rust over time. The grates are extremely difficult to maintain and clean even with the various grill cleaners recommended by Char Broil. Over all I would not purchase this grill again. It cooks great but the quality of the grate housing, grates and the flame retarders is poor.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Emitter Trays Have Rusted Away To Nothing. . . At 1st I absolutely adored this grill then the rust started. I've used various recommended cleaning products, I seasoned it regularly with cooking oil & now I can not even use the 1st section because it has completely rusted away leaving a huge hole. The 2nd & 3rd sections of my grilling surface have grates over the emitter trays which is only reason I can still cook on it because again both of those emitter trays have rusted away to nothing. Plus my ignition switch quit working a long time ago. I could by a new grill with the money I'll have to spend to get this one back in shape. Extremely disappointed with this purchase. I could buy 3 of these trays but I know they'll rust away after a year of use.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Grate Housing Purchase made after each of the original grates rusted through after 3 seasons. Replacement cost for the 3 parts was was about 30% of what the grill could be purchased new. It should be noted, the grill is kept outside, secured in the Charbroil fitted cover and regularly has the recommended high temp oils applied to the cooking service and grates. Only time will tell if materials have improved and if these grates will have longer service life

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Grate Housing Tray poorly engineered The grate housing tray on my Char-Broil Infrared BBQ rusted out in about 1 year. This despite the BBQ being stored under cover, and covered with a fitted outdoor cover. To me, it's obvious the metal screening was not up to the task, too thin, and poorly engineered. Up to this point, I felt Char-Broil was one of the better BBQ's, but I'm less convinced of that now.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not the usual great product from Charbroil..... This is my third season with this Infrared Technology, and fortunately it will be my last as the main housing of the unit has finally rusted out to the point of no return. This is the third set of Infrared grates and housings I have replaced since purchasing the 3 burner unit a few years back. These units cook the food well, but require a LOT of care and continuous cleaning, and when that is not done, the cooking quality drops significantly. If you enjoy marinated meats and poultry, get another grill to cook it on......dripping BBQ sauce gums up the holes, which has a significant negative impact of the cooking quality. I am going to go back to the old style grids, but I may not purchase another Charbroil......I'm thinking it may be time to give another manufacturer and opportunity. Sorry guys......very disappointed with this technology.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great! Have you ever had a major "Flame-Up" while grilling chicken or hamburgers - then you need to transition to a Char-Broil infrared grill. I grilled 12 chicken quarters recently at the same time and never had a flame-up - that is unheard of with all the chicken fat that you find with chicken quarters! Since purchasing this grill I have had no flame-ups - none!!! I replace the Tru-infrared housing every few years (3 to 4 years) and the stainless steal grates about every 5 years, incredible right. The flame never touches your food, just the infrared heat. Try this grill, you won't regret it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nifty Secret I have had the Infared grill for four years and use it alot. I think the "grates are different now. My old style had 3/4 inch tall up-side-down "u"s with equal spacing between them setting on top of a stainless pan with about a gillion holes in it. It cooks good. It can be made better as those wood pellets of different hardwoods slip right between the "u"s below the food and start to burn and smoke giving food cooked on this real smoke from real wood. It does make for a little more cleaning and sooner replacement of the gillion hole pan. But I think it is well worth it and brand new shiney insides every couple of years iis not a bad thing. I bought one for my dad and it is doing fine too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect fit. The original pieces I needed for my grill had been discontinued, and replaced with a new part... I was nervous that this might be a problem. When the grates arrived, I was extremely pleased to find they were a perfect fit. I was also very satisfied with the packaging of the items - as they could easily have been damaged with out proper packaging. Thanks Charbroil!

With so many people giving low grades for these due to rust, would it be wise to coat tray with RustOleum high temperature primer prior to using? Then perhaps coat with canola oil a few days after painting? Doesn't seem right to only last 2-3 years?

    Asked by: JR00001
We do not recommend painting this TRU-Infrared emitter tray. We suggest a nylon brush and warm soapy water or biodegradable grill cleaner. Seasoning the grates and emitters with canola oil will also help to keep food from sticking and prevent rust. Please give us a call at 1-800-241-7548 for more information.
