Trough Firebox is rated out of 5 by 16.
Rated 4 out of 5 by CoachMike from Good but breaks The trough does an excellent job of emitting heat evenly through the foods being cooked, however, the front two eyelet pieces designed to keep the trough in place easily break. It is disappointing that the replacement part is so expensive.

Rated 1 out of 5 by CMBrown from 3 yrs & I fear the trough will fall into the fire I grill on average once a week, and keep the grill covered/out of the weather. Now both points on which these troughs hold themselves in place are bending. Very disappointed that to replace both, it will cost 1/4 of a brand new grill.

Rated 1 out of 5 by JaredWest from Great at first, but not built to last!!! Love the grill, keep it on a covered, screened in porch. The fear the fire trough is going to fall through every time I grill, the little tabs that hold it in place have almost rusted completely off and are holding on by a thread, I can only use one side right now.

Rated 2 out of 5 by jmcgurty from Great Grill - Poor Part Design This grill does a great job evenly cooking. The radiant trough design is poor. The mounting post legs rusted off in about 3 years , would have expected better with a grill this price. The first grill I actually kept covered. Disappointing they are so expensive to replace. Was hoping to see they had redesigned them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Mr Smokey from Cooked Great but falling apart I was super happy for the first 6 months...cooked great and looked great. Mild California weather, always covered, never in rain, just average 1-3 time a week use. At some point it started taking much longer to heat up(just even to 300F), but the bigger problem is that the grills are falling apart and sticking to everything and the troughs in the firebox(under the grills) are rusting/burning out and now have big holes-so much for no flare ups and indirect even heat. The troughs and grills just need to be made of better material. I have followed seasoning directions, care instructions, etc. The replacement parts are almost as much as buying a new grill, can you please confirm part number of trough and grill replacements?

Rated 2 out of 5 by alhusker from Firebox The grill is very nice, the firebox...not so much. I have only had this about 2 years and it is kept entirely under a back deck so weather is a non issue. The "legs" have rusted through and I have holes in both sides even after seasoning as directed. The replacement price for these seems extremely high.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Back yard grillin from Troughs do not last long for what you pay I use my grill a couple times a week and keep it out of the elements. Even by doing so the troughs have developed holes in them defeating the purpose of "infa-red". The cost to replace seems a bit excessive.

Rated 2 out of 5 by hjolly from Poor Design I too purchased my grill 2.5-3 years ago, the contact points on the trough just broke off. I was religious about spraying down the trough and grates with every use. Unfortunately it didn't prevent anything and now the trough and the grates need replacing. Very costly. For a grill in this price range, it should have been better. I grill out a lot, and otherwise like the performance, but these two items(actually four, because Charbroil only sells them individually) will cost $150. WAY TOO MUCH!

Is there an upgrade to the Trough Firebox PT#G521-3500-W1?? Seems to be the weak point in this grill. Also was wondering if there are upgraded stainless grates for this grill? I have the Char-Broil Gourmet T-47D.
There is not an upgrade for this trough or a stainless steel replacement for your grates. How are you normally cleaning these parts? We recommend warm soapy water or biodegradable grill cleaner with a nylon brush. Give us a call at 1-800-241-7548 and we will be able to further assist and help you to get back up and grilling.

We recommend cleaning with warm soapy water or biodegradable grill cleaner. A nylon brush can be used to clean out any grease and food particles. Seasoning the trough with canola oil will help to prolong the lifetime. Give us a call at 1-800-241-7548 for more information.

I lost my Manual .How to prepare foe usage. What do i coated with ?
We recommend applying canola oil or another high heat oil to the trough. Turn the grill to high for about 15 to 20 minutes after the oil has been applied.
