Grilled Scallops


Marinate these Grilled Scallops in a garlic turmeric marinade for bold flavor and enticing color. Turmeric give the scallops a mildly aromatic flavor with hints of orange and ginger and pairs well with garlic, coriander and cumin. Serve them as the surf in your next surf and turf meal, or as the main course over steamed rice and grilled vegetables.

Serves 4
For the Scallops
pound jumbo scallops
cup olive oil
teaspoon kosher salt
teaspoon ground black pepper
cloves garlic, minced
teaspoons turmeric
teaspoon coriander
teaspoon cumin

Ingredient Tips

When grilling scallops, the bigger the better. Larger scallops are easier to thread onto skewers and give you lots of surface area to sizzle on those hot grates.


Prep: 10 Minutes, Cook: 7 Minutes

In a small bowl, whisk olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic, turmeric, coriander and cumin. Pour into a zip-top bag with scallops and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.

Hot Tip: Marinate overnight to give the scallops more time to soak up all those delicious flavors.

Preheat grill to 500°F.


Remove scallops from marinade and thread onto skewers.

Hot Tip: Scallops cook fast. You’ll want your grill as hot as possible to get good caramelization on the outside without overcooking the inside.

Place scallops on grill for 5 minutes. Flip and cook for an additional 2 minutes.


Serve as a main dish with grilled vegetables and steamed rice.

    When you put scallops on grill do you close the grill cover?

      No. Scallops cook quickly on searing hot grates. You risk overcooking them if you close the lid.
