While All-Purpose BBQ rubs are excellent resources to use when in a bind, you can create your own personalized smoked pork shoulder rub with the unique flavors you prefer.  For starters, try our recipe for smoked pork shoulder rub and eventually branch out to make a spice rub of your own.

Cups Lawry's seasoned salt

Cup garlic salt

Cup celery salt (plus 1 1/2 teaspoon)

Cup onion salt
1/2
Cup paprika

Tablespoons chili powder

Tablespoons black pepper

Tablespoon lemon pepper mix

Teaspoons celery seed

Teaspoons dry sage, ground

Teaspoon dry mustard
1/2
Teaspoon dry thyme, ground
1/2
Teaspoon cayenne pepper
Ingredient Tips
Pro tip
Use salt to make up half of the rub recipe. This will give the meat flavor and help it become tender while cooking.
Make it stick
Massage and press rub deeply onto surface of pork to help spices really stick throughout the cooking process.
Plays well with others
This rub recipe also tastes great on Boston Butt, pork chops, or pork belly. Make a large amount and save it for other great pork recipes.
