How to Grill Frozen Turkey Burgers: A Step-by-Step Guide

Looking for a quick, easy meal when you don't have a ton of time? Throw some frozen turkey burgers directly on the grill. Turkey burgers are leaner than beef — they have less calories, total fat and saturated fat. In this article, we give step-by-step instructions explaining how to grill frozen turkey burgers that are juicy and flavorful.

Before we jump into cooking, what type of turkey burgers do you have? Are you using frozen turkey burgers from a package you bought at your grocery store? Or are you working with homemade turkey patties that you froze yourself?

The type of burgers will dictate how they need to be grilled.

PRE-PACKAGED FROZEN TURKEY BURGERS

1

Do not thaw patties before grilling

2

Preheat grill to medium heat (for gas grills) or heat coals until they burn bright orange (for charcoal grills).

3

Brush both sides of frozen patties with oil.

4

Grill turkey burgers 8 minutes, flip.

5

Grill other side for 7 minutes or until completely cooked.

Turkey and other poultry should always be cooked well done. To check the doneness of your burgers, stick a meat thermometer in the center of the patty. Once the temperature reads 165° F, your burgers are done!

HOMEMADE FROZEN TURKEY BURGERS

1

Thaw turkey patties prior to cooking. The night before you plan on making your burgers, take them out of the freezer and place them in the refrigerator. If you were unable to plan ahead and need to thaw your burgers in a hurry, place frozen turkey patties in a sealable plastic bag and place under cold running water until the patties are thawed. This may take one to two hours.

2

Once your turkey patties are thawed, brush each side with oil

3

Light your grill, bringing heat up to medium high

4

Grill burgers 8 minutes on one side, flip, grill for 7 minutes on other side.

5

Check temperature of your turkey burgers using a meat thermometer. When the temperature reads 165° F, your turkey burgers are done. Remember: turkey burgers should never be cooked less than well done.
