Kettleman® TRU-Infrared™ 22.5" Charcoal Grill is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Grill I've had in a long time I don't usually give "excellent" product ratings across the board, but I have to say this grill really surprised me. After years of cooking with charcoal, this grill really made it fun for me again. It's very easy to clean (not something you can say about all charcoal grills) plus I really love the way the grate is designed so that you can really move foods around (accounting for offsetting your charcoal if you wish). Overall the design is made with a griller in mind. I've also been impressed with the quality of this grill. I think Charbroil is really upping their game with the quality of the their grills and this one is a testament to that. Well done, Charbroil! You've added some great style to a classic. I'm sure this one will be around for a long time!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Still learning! Bought this grill about 6 weeks ago and having a ball cooking with it. Have not used charcoal in years so it takes some practice. "Beer can" chicken is the best. Great for searing, but much quicker cooking time for steaks and burgers. Have not tried fish yet. Easy to clean. Did not realize how much I missed the flavor and aroma of real charcoal and smoking chips!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from really good purchase. I have used this grill several times now, and it does it with less charcoal and a little quicker than my old one. Cooked a whole chicken on it today, turned out really great. Have done hamburgers and some boneless ribs also, burgers only took five minutes to cook. It cleans up really easy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very pleased I have been using the Kettleman grill since early summer. Prior to that, I owned a similar-sized grill made by the other company that dominates the kettle grill space that I used for 8 years so my review is essentially a comparison. I have used the Kettleman for steaks, burgers, chicken breasts, hot dogs, whole chickens, a roast, and pizza so far. Bottom line: I would buy the Kettleman if I had the decision to make over again. Pros: the design is fantastic. Zero flare-ups, even temperatures even on windy days, the grate has narrow slits so even small stuff stays put, I love the hinged lid, emptying the ash is relatively easy. You use less charcoal than the other kettle (though some of the comments from other reviewers seem to me to be on the optimistic side). I would say I use 1/4 less charcoal. You can get an excellent sear because the charcoal grate is close to the cooking grate. Heat distribution across the grate surface seems more consistent than my prior grill. I’ve had no problems cooking indirect or direct. Cons: 1. the cooking grate is harder to clean. The narrow and deep slits that make for better grilling also make for harder cleaning. The only thing I’ve found that works fairly well is the nylon grill brush that Charbroil makes and that can only be used when the grill is cold. You could probably also use a copper bristle brush but they are hard to find and I haven’t found one with bristles long enough clean all the way through the grate slits. I settle for my grate being mostly clean and it’s well worth the better grilling experience but if you’re fanatical about a clean grill, you’ll have to spend more time. 2. Temperature control relies almost entirely on the amount and location of the charcoal. The air intake vents cannot be adjusted and while the exhaust vent is used to adjust the air temperature in the grill chamber, it doesn’t seem to make much difference for the temperature at the grate right above the charcoal. Quality: so far, so good. It is holding up fine. I haven’t seen any signs of issues. It is just as sturdy as my old grill. My only complaint is that some of the hardware is cheap. When I was attaching the legs to the kettle body, I easily stripped one of the screws (I was using a small ratchet and hand tightening only). After that I was extremely careful but later on I still stripped one of the bolts/nuts that secures the wind guard to the back of the kettle (again, hand tightening only with a small ratchet). It stayed in place but was a little lose so I ended up spending $3 to get replacement stainless steel bolts, washers, and nuts to use to attach the wind guard. I didn't replace the bolts for the legs and they are sturdy right now (the rack helps stabilize them as well) but I will keep an eye on these as I go. One star off for the cheap hardware but I would give it 4.5 stars if I could.

I noticed two unused holes on top of part that holds lid. Is there a part that uses these holes and will close the gap between the lid and the hinge part. This gap lets out enough air so that the vent system is all but useless, and temp control is nill.

Just need a little info on the adjustable coal grate. I see it advertised, but could not find any info on it. Can the coal grate be lowered or raised while cooking? Also, how much can it be raised or lowered? Any video demonstrating this? Thanks.

Asked by: theo1106
The charcoal grate is stationary and cannot be raised or lowered.

I bought my first char True infrared charcoal grill before I had three Weber kettle's . How do the cooking techniques differ or do they? Your web site gives all kinds of information on cooking with Gas infrared grills but very little on charcoal.

Asked by: Waymond
Congrats on your new grill! This Kettleman is a TRU-Infrared Grill and does not cook the same as a standard charcoal grill. Please follow this link (http://bit.ly/295mQ75) to a video on the Kettleman. This link (http://bit.ly/295phq) will show you how to set up different cook zones in your grill.
