Grilled Breakfast Burgers
FOR THE BURGER
- 1 pound ground chuck, preferably 80/20
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 onion, grated
- 1 tablespoon ground sage
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
FOR THE TOPPINGS
- 4 eggs
- 1 tablespoon butter
TOP IT OFF
- 4 buns, split, buttered and toasted
- green leaf lettuce
Preheat grill to 450°F.
Combine ground chuck, garlic, onion, sage, cayenne, salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce in a medium-size bowl and form 4 patties. Using your thumb, press an indentation into the center of each patty to ensure even cooking.
Place patties on the grill and cook to desired doneness, 7-10 minutes, flipping once halfway through. Top with cheese a minute or two before removing the patties from the grill. Close the lid to melt the cheese.
Meanwhile, preheat a cast-iron skillet on your side burner or the other side of the grill. Melt the butter and fry the eggs.
Spread a little mayonnaise on each bottom bun and stack with lettuce. Add a burger, egg and bun topper. Insert a toothpick into the center of the top bun through to the burger to release the egg yolk. Serve and enjoy.
