These Grilled Turkey Burgers with Chipotle Sauce are revved up with a double shot of chipotle. A great alternative to regular turkey burgers, chopped chipotle is in the turkey mix and the creamy sauce to make it spicy and tangy. The burgers are juicy and moderately hot and the sweet and spicy sauce brings out the smoky flavor from the grill. Red cabbage and grilled red onions on top add great texture, color and flavor.


For the Burgers

  • 1 1/2-2 pounds ground turkey
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 chipotle in adobo sauce, chopped
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons fresh thyme, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 red onions
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup watercress
  • 1 1/2 cups red cabbage coleslaw
  • kosher salt and black pepper to taste
  • 6 burger buns

For the Chipotle Sauce

  • 2 chipotles in adobo sauce, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

Preheat your grill to 450°F.
In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, bread crumbs, chipotle, thyme and onion powder. Divide the mixture into 6 equal-sized patties. Season each patty with salt and pepper.
Combine chipotle, yogurt, mayonnaise, honey and garlic salt in a medium-size bowl. Set aside.
Cut red onions into 1/2 to 3/4-inch-thick slices. Using a basting brush , brush both sides with olive oil.
Place burger patties on the grill. Cook until internal temperature reaches 165°F on an instant-read thermomete , about 6 to 8 minutes per side. Brush the burgers with chipotle sauce on both sides during the last minute of cooking.
Grill the onions for 2 minutes per side and the buns for 15 seconds on the cut side.
Assemble each burger on grilled buns, starting with a spoonful of chipotle sauce, watercress, grilled turkey patty, red cabbage coleslaw and grilled red onions.
