Inspired by two all-American classics, our Smash Burger Cheesesteak is stacked high with juicy ground beef, gooey provolone cheese and topped with grilled onions & peppers. It’s a beefed-up burger cheesesteak hybrid that will level up your grilling game.

We made this recipe on our reliable 4-Burner Gas Griddle.

Ingredients

For the cheesesteak

 • 4 tablespoons olive oil, divided
 • 1/4 onion, chopped
 • 1 red pepper, chopped
 • 2 tablespoons Asian bbq sauce
 • 1 pound ground beef, 80% lean
 • 3 tablespoons beef seasoning, divided
 • > parchment paper
 • 2 cups shredded provolone cheese
 • 3 sub rolls, sliced
 • 1/4 cup shredded lettuce
 • 1 cup chopped cherry tomatoes
 • 2 tablespoons mayo

Directions

Step 1 Of 11
1.
Heat the griddle to 400°F. Drizzle with 2 tablespoons of the olive oil and distribute evenly.
2.
Toss onions and peppers onto the hot cooking surface and cook for 5 minutes.
3.
Add Asian BBQ sauce to the mixture and cook for another 5 minutes; then set aside.
4.
In a large bowl, combine ground beef with 2 tablespoons of the beef seasoning and mix thoroughly.
5.
Roll ground beef into four equally-sized meatballs and set aside.
6.
Oil up the cooking surface with the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil and place meatballs on the griddle.
7.
Smash the balls of meat into burgers using a meat press and dust with the remaining beef seasoning.
Hot Tip
Place parchment paper between the meat press and the meat to prevent sticking.
8.
Cook the burgers for 2-3 minutes; flip and cook for another 2 minutes.
9.
Chop up the burgers using a chopper/scraper. Add a generous sprinkle of cheese and mix until it’s mostly melted.
10.
Remove chopped meat from the griddle and spoon onto sub rolls.
11.
Add sautéed onions & peppers and top with lettuce, tomatoes and mayo.
Hot Tip
Want to spice things up? Mix a little sriracha into your mayo.
