Gas regulator tripped
You are either out of gas or your excess flow valve tripped. First check for gas in your cylinder. Typically a full cylinder weighs about 30 pounds and about 17-18 when it's empty. You can weigh it on a household scale. Or better yet, use a gauge.
If you have gas, you may have tripped the excess flow valve. So, turn off the control and tank knobs and wait 30 seconds. Turn on the tank valve slowly, then light grill according to lighting instructions. If flames are still low, repeat this process up to three times. If this process fails, the excess flow valve may have become stuck in the regulator and the regulator will need to be replaced.

Incorrect Burner Issue
- From what store did you purchase your grill?
You must have purchased your grill from Mills Fleet Farm to be effected by this burner issue. - What is the model number of your grill?
The issue with the burner only applies to model number 463720108 with serial numbers from 000001 to 000402. No other grill model is affected. - Where do I find the model and serial number on my grill?
The model number and the serial number are behind the grill on a white sticker. The red circle indicates the location of the model number and the 6 digit numerical serial number. Please record all 6 digits.
- Where were the grills sold?
The grills were sold only at Mills Fleet Farm stores in the following states: Iowa, North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin. - What do I have to do to order the correct burner?

Most likely not. However, check under the grill to see if there is any evidence of scorched or melted parts. If so, contact our Warranty Center for replacements under the scope of this recall.

Flames blow out because excess flow valve tripped
If you have gas, you may have tripped the excess flow valve. So, turn off the control and tank knobs and wait 30 seconds. Turn on the tank valve slowly, then light grill according to lighting instructions. If flames are still low, repeat this process up to three times. If this process fails, the excess flow valve may have become stuck in the regulator and the regulator will need to be replaced.
Low flow with natural gas
A "dual fuel" gas grill is required to convert a propane grill to natural gas. If you're going to, or have already, converted your grill, make sure that you have the Char-Broil natural gas conversion kit specified for your grill. If your grill is a Char-Broil Dual Fuel®-equipped gas grill model, the specified conversion kit model number is listed on the rating label of your grill. You can also look for a Dual Fuel Natural Gas Conversion Kit. You'll need to have your model number available.
If conversion to natural gas has resulted in lower than expected temperatures please call your local gas company for a service visit. Only the local gas company can determine if the proper pressure is being delivered to the grill. If your grill has more than 65,000 BTU’s, a 3/8” hose may not allow enough gas to flow. In this case a 1/2” hose is recommended.
No gas flow

If you have gas, you may have tripped the excess flow valve. So, turn off the control knob, disconnect the regulator, wait 30 seconds and reconnect the regulator. Turn on the tank valve slowly, then light grill according to lighting instructions.
If flames are still low, repeat this process up to three times. If this process fails the excess flow valve may have become stuck in the regulator and the regulator will need to be replaced.
Yellow flames instead of blue
Regulator Pressure
The most common cause of yellow flames is low gas pressure from the regulator, which is an easy fix that you can do at home.
1. Open the grill lid.
2. Turn off all knobs on the control panel in front.
3. Turn off the tank knob. * Disconnect the regulator from the propane tank.
4. Wait 30 seconds. * Reconnect the regulator to the propane tank.
5. Slowly open the propane tank knob all the way open.
6. Turn on the appropriate control knob and light the grill per the instructions on the control panel.
If these steps helped, you can prevent the regulator from getting stuck again. You’ll want to make sure that you turn off the control knobs before turning off the valve on the propane tank. But, if this doesn't help and the flames are large and still yellow, you may need to replace the regulator.
Fuel Leak
This is another common cause for yellow flames, you may have a propane leak. Try testing for a leak.

Refill your propane tank.
Flames blow out because of wind
Turn the front of your grill to face the wind or increase the flame height by turning gas valve to higher position.
Bad propane tank connection
You probably have a bad propane tank connection or the rubber seal has failed. Turn off the cylinder valve. Remove the regulator from the cylinder and inspect the rubber seal in the cylinder valve for damage. If it's damaged, replace the cylinder.

Grill isn't heating or cooking properly
Gas grills generally provide fairly even heat, but it is normal for there to be a slight temperature variance in different areas of the grill. But, if you notice that part of your grill is either not heating or over-heating, there’s something wrong.
Blocked Burners
Gas grill burners have several ports along the sides where the gas flows through to produce the flame. When grease and food drippings fall down the grates, the drippings can clog the ports so the gas can’t flow properly. You can try cleaning the burner by using a grill brush to remove the drippings from the inside and outside of the burners. If the burners are too clogged, you may need to replace the burners.
Greasy Flame Tamers
Flame tamers cover the burners on a gas grill. They protect the grill burners from the bulk of grease and food drippings; they also infuse your food with flavor as the drippings heat up and create smoke. When the buildup is too thick, the flame tamers can cause flare-ups and uneven cooking. You can clean the flame tamers with a good brush, but if the buildup to too thick, you should replace the flame tamers. (Flame tamers are also known as vaporizer bars, heat shields, or heat diffusers.)
Rusty Heat Tents
Heat tents (also known as flame tamers) work best when they are clean. Those that are rusted can cause flare-ups and uneven heat distribution. You can remove light, surface rust. But if the heat tents have moderate to thick rust or some of the material is rusted away, you should go ahead and replace them.
If you’re experiencing uneven heat on your grill, try cleaning your grill. All else fails, you may need to replace the parts to ensure that your grill is working properly.
Attaching Your Propane Tank to Your Grill
Getting ready to grill for the first time? Here’s how to get your propane tank on the grill. Remember all grills vary, so check your manual first.
- Make sure the gas valve on the propane tank is closed first—just turn the valve clockwise to a full stop.
- Also make sure all the knobs on your grill are turned to off.
- Remove the seal from the propane tank. Always use the cap and strap supplied with the valve.
- Hold the gas hose and regulator and insert the nipple into the valve.
- Tighten the coupling nut with your hands. Make sure the connection isn’t cross threaded. Don’t use tools to tighten.
- Turn the coupler clockwise to tighten all the way to a full stop.
Now you're ready to grill!

Wires are sparking between igniter and electrode
If your grill won't light and you see sparking, you will need to replace the igniter wire and electrode assembly. Refer to your owner's manual for specific instructions.
Light Gas Grill with a Match
Make sure you are following this method: Do not lean over grill while lighting.
1. Turn gas burner control valves to Off.
2. Open lid during lighting or re-lighting.
3. Open the valve on your propane tank.
4. Place match into match holder (hanging from side panel of grill). Light match; then light burner by placing match through the match light hole on side of grill. Immediately push in and turn burner knob to the HIGH position. Be sure burner lights and stays lit.
5. Light adjacent burners in sequence by pushing knobs in and turning to the HIGH position.
Match will not reach burners
Use a long stemmed wooden match or a butane wand type lighter with the match lighting holes provided. Ensure that the wand length can reach the burner ports.
Why won't my gas grill light?
There are many reasons as to why your gas grill isn't lighting. Make sure to check the burners, ignition battery, electrode wires and the propane tank.
Check the burners
Check that the grill burner is engaged with the control panel, and make sure your valves are positioned inside the burner tubes.
If your grill won't light, it could be because you're lighting the wrong burner. See instructions on the control panel of your grill and in your manual.
The grill burners could be blocked if your grill doesn't light. Pests, spider webs or other debris could be blocking them.
Check the battery
Make sure that the ignition batter is not dead. If it is, you'll need to replace your igniter battery.
Make sure the battery is correctly positioned. Follow your manual instructions.
Check to make sure that the battery electrodes are not wet, oxidized or slightly corroded. You may need to remove battery and clean off electrodes with dry cloth or with alcohol wipe. Reinstall battery.
Check the electrode wires
Make sure that the electrode wires are connected properly. Reconnect the wires or replace the electrode wire assembly.
Make sure that the electrode tip is in the right position. The electrode should be pointing toward the gas port opening on a burner. The distance should be 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch. Adjust as necessary.
If your grill won't light, it could be because you have dirty electrode terminals. Clean them with rubbing alcohol and a clean cotton swab.
If your grill is not lighting, are you seeing sparks at your electrodes? If so, you may have a damaged electrode. You will need to replace it.
Check the propane tank
Make sure the propane tank is connected to the grill properly. If your grill isn't connected correctly, you could have trouble lighting it. Make sure the coupling nut and propane tank cylinder valve are fully connected. Turn the coupling nut approximately one-half to three-quarters additional turn until a solid stop. Tighten by hand only. Do not use tools or you could strip the threads.
The D-cell battery pack included with this product is intended for use solely as a backup to the primary 120VAC power, in case of a power outage. It is not intended to be used as the primary power source. Attempting to use the battery as the primary power source may result in product shutdown or error reporting. Please plug in to AC power to resume normal operation. Please contact Customer Service (1-866-239-6777) if problem continues.
Switch from DC to AC Power to correct E01

Burner Ignitor Cage adjustment to correct E01
- Remove grate and emitter on right side of grill to gain access to ignitor cage circled in red below.
- With two fingers pulling up at the tip of cage, and one pushing down at the base, bend cage upward approximately 1/8”.
- A standard pencil should now fit between the tip of the cage and the burner.
- Replace emitter and grate and confirm grill runs properly.

Firmware Update to correct E01
If other troubleshooting steps do not resolve your issue, call Customer Service (1-866-239-6777) to obtain c firmware update kit.
Note: A computer located within a few feet of your grill is required to perform this update. If this is not possible, a controller replacement is available.
