How to Grill Avocados: 4-Ways
SELECT YOUR AVOCADOWith avocados ripening in 4 to 7 days at room temperature, it is best to buy them a few days before you plan on grilling. Avocados are ripe when they yield to a gentle squeeze, but are not too soft or mushy.
PREPARE YOUR AVOCADOBegin by cutting your avocados lengthwise. Twist halves in opposite directions to separate. To remove the pit, use a spoon or sharp knife. If using a knife, take caution. Thwack the pit of the avocado with your knife and twist to remove.
PREHEAT YOUR GRILLPreheat your grill to medium-high at 500°F.
GRILL YOUR AVOCADOBefore placing the avocados on the grill, brush avocado halves with olive oil. Place the avocados on the grill, cut or flesh side down. Grill for 2 or 3 minutes. The avocados should be firm, but slightly softer than prior to grilling.
Hot TipSince the flesh of the avocado is delicate and may crumble, don’t remove the skin before grilling.
