These Carrot Dogs by @TurnipVegan are the perfect plant alternative to beef or pork dogs, or a simple way to mix things up on the grill and discover something new. Soak your carrots in a rich marinade of spices then grill them to unlock the sweetness inside.  The end result is a handheld treat that will change the way you look at grilling with plants.

For the Hot Dogs

  • 6 carrots
  • 6 hot dog buns or vegan butter toast buns
  • 1/2 white onion
  • 1/2 red bell pepper

For the Marinade

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon coriander
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 6 tablespoons liquid aminos


Step 1 Of 8
Combine marinade ingredients into a bowl. Mix and set aside.
Peel and cut the carrots. Add the carrots to the marinade and let them marinate for 2 to 4 hours—marinate overnight for the best results.
Preheat your grill on medium heat to 350° F.
Place the carrots on the grill and rotate regularly. Grill until the carrots are soft or charred to your preference.
Hot Tip
Add hickory wood chips for added flavor using the Char-Broil Cast Iron Smoker Box.
Add the onions and red peppers to the grill.
Toast your buns.
Remove onions and peppers from the grill.
Build your carrot dog and add any additional toppings or condiments you want.
